inspired - smash cake

In case you're new to 'inspired'
it's a linky which runs every Monday
and is all about sharing some things you have seen
which have inspired you.

You can give them a theme
and group them together
or just share a collection of lovely pictures.
So if you are a photo addict
or spend all your free time on Pinterest
then why not share
and link up.

A few weeks ago for an inspired post
Well as his birthday is looming on the horizon
I'm back to some birthday inspiration this week.
And quite specifically
smash cakes.

Smash cakes appear to be a bit of an American thing.
And the basic idea is that you make your little one their very own birthday cake
and then you let them smash it up and eat it
(while making sure the camera has lots of battery and an empty memory card
so that you can snap away and capture the mess.)

I first came across this idea before I was even pregnant
and knew I wanted to do it.
And I still really want to.
I figure that all the mess will be totally worth it
for all the gorgeous pictures we'll get
of our cheeky little monkey covered in cake.

That is a baby who is really enjoying some birthday cake.

I love the idea that I could colour coordinate the cake with some sort of background
but in reality I won't get that carried away.
Cute though.

If the little guy's birthday wasn't in February
then I would seriously consider an outdoor smash cake shoot.

I love that this cake is so HUGE.
I'm making a rainbow cake for the party
but it won't be for the little guy
it'll be for the grown-ups
who will clearly appreciate it more.
I'd quite like a rainbow theme for his cake though.

Look at that smile.
And those sticky little fingers.
Love it.

  3. I love the outdoor shoot by the ocean. What a great idea! My daughter has an August birthday that I'm currently brainstorming for. This photo idea might be perfect!
