love from mummy on your birthday

Dear Beautiful Boy,

You are one year old. One whole year. Perhaps if I say it enough, then it might actually start to sound real and possible. One year, my baby. . .

My tiny, fragile little baby is no more. I can't even look at you and imagine you were ever that small tiny little newborn. It's like you've always been just as you are right now.

And you are so incredibly fun now, so full of character and personality. You seem to be understanding and learning so much more lately, something which makes being your mummy so exciting. Just today you shared your lunch for the first time; you picked up a grape, looked at it and then held it our to me. When I took it you smiled and looked so proud, and you waited for me to eat it before you carried on with your lunch.

It seems like you work out something new each day. And while when you turned six months old, I was a little sad to think how fast you were growing up, now I'm not because it's all so exciting. At some point in the next few months, you'll walk for the first time and I can't wait to see you achieve such an awesome milestone. Before the year is out you'll more than likely be talking to us which I'm so excited about. No more second guessing your thoughts.

And yet as fantastic as it is to see you growing up, I still want to hold you and smell you and protect you as desperately as I did back when you were teeny. Perhaps more so.Because with everyday that passes I love you a little bit more than the day before.

When I think back to how anxious Daddy and I were about everything back in the early days, it makes me see how far the three of us have come. We know each other now. I can tell by your giggle exactly which tickly spot Daddy is attacking. I can tell by the look on your face whether you are going to eat your dinner or not! I can tell by the way you talk in your cot whether you are waking up, going to sleep or just dreaming.

I thank my lucky stars each and every day that I got the cards I got dealt. Because I have the world's most amazing baby. He's sweet. He's funny. He's so adorable. So well behaved. And so adaptable. He loves to sleep. Loves to eat. And loves cuddles. And I love him more than anything on this earth.

I hope you'll grow up always knowing how much your daddy and I adore you. You've been the best thing to happen in our lives and we want nothing more than for you to be happy and loved.

Happy One Year!

I love you millions, now and always.
