snow

Snow.
We had snow.
A beautiful, perfect blanket of white.
We played.
We laughed.
We explored.
We had the most wonderful time.

We pulled our beautiful babies around
on a sledge that belonged to my brother and I
and that we had spent many snowy days speeding around on.
And now my babies have a sibling to share snowy fun with too,
which makes me smile from ear to ear.

It was an absolute treat that we got snow on a weekend,
so without the worry of the hubby's work commitments
and play dates and appointments,
we could just enjoy it together.

Last year when it snowed the beautiful boy wasn't walking yet
and he wasn't terribly impressed with the sledge either.
But this year . . .
. . . oh, this year he was in love.

He was in awe of the winter wonderland around him.
He loved being pulled around on the sledge at high speed.
And every time he saw a footprint in the snow
he started to say aloud the words from The Gruffalo's Child.
"Ah-ha oh-ho, marks in the snow."
It was amazing to watch him.

I'm so glad it snowed for the beautiful girl's first winter.
But we weren't entirely sure what she would make of it.
In her trademark style
she seemed pretty unbothered by it at first.
But the bemused expression soon turned into a smile,
and she didn't even seem to mind the cold too much
as long as she got plenty of cuddles.

Our hallway is full of drying coats and hats and mittens.
Wet wellington boots are lined up by the front door.
We have had rosy cheeks and cold pink noses.
Our beautiful boy got his first taste of hot chocolate
and our beautiful girl got her first taste of snowflakes.
What a beautiful weekend it was.

  4. Gorgeous! Your littles are so cute! Stephen was working this weekend so we didn't get much family snow action. It was a shame really - still, we've had a shed load dumped on the ground today, so there's still hope! xx

    1. That stripy snow suit is actually the same one that he had last year. Quite the result that we got to winters wear out of it. x

  24. It is so rare to have real PROPER snow in the UK, the kind you can play in that is. We have really enjoyed this batch but I am looking forward to being able to go out without my boots on soon

  25. Lovely photos. My 1 year old wasn't sure about it all. Agree with you on the weekend front as normally hubbie is busy digging his car out rather to go to work rather than playing in the snow.
