wide open spaces

The beautiful boy has always come to life in the outdoors.
He lives for wide open spaces
and for fresh air.

As he grows,
he is showing more and more interest
in the trees, plants, flowers and wildlife
that surround him.

Even on days when he's feeling under the weather
(like he has been lately)
he still loves to be outside,
letting a breeze blow the cobwebs away.

The beautiful girl has always had an adventurous kind of spirit.
She is inquisitive
and oh-so-interested in seeing everything the world has to offer.

Lately this is increasing,
and she longs to touch, taste, squash, smell, climb over and look at
everything she can get her hands on.

Her brother's love of the outdoors is rubbing off on her
and she tries desperately to chase him on all fours
and see whatever he is seeing.

And it never ceases to amaze me
how restorative the great outdoors is.
When I'm tired or run down . . .
fresh air,
the smell of grass,
a gentle breeze,
some sunshine;
they all act like a remedy.

Okay,
and their beautiful faces are a pretty good remedy too . . .

    1. It sure does. I can remember going for walks as a teenager, just to think about things. Fresh air is so healing. x

  2. We are huge fans of getting outdoors- really therapeutic and so important from an early age - especially at a time where so many kids end up glued to computer screen (says the blogger!)

    1. Definitely. I think everything is about balance; we'd be naive to keep out children away from technology, but there is so much to enjoy about the world outside which doesn't need a battery. x

  3. I like beautiful boys rain mac! My little boy is always happiest outdoors too, it's getting a bit difficult for me to chase round the playground after him now but we still have fun in the garden. xx

    1. Thanks. It's a fantastic mac; really waterproof and well made, with a fleecy lining. It's by Hatley.
I remember only too well that feeling of wanting to let them play outside but feeling so uncomfortable as a big bump got in the way. That's when gardens come into their own. x

    1. Ahhh, I do think there is something built into boys and the way they learn and play is so in tune with being outside. It's like they actually NEED it. x

  6. What gorgeous photos of them both playing. We love going outside too and even if we are just having a day at home, we have to go out for a walk in the morning- we just get cabin fever staying in all day. x

    1. It's rare we spend an entire day at home, even if its just a little stroll to the park we go out at some point. Kids just need that fresh air I think. x

  7. Beautiful photos. I'm just the same. I try to go for a walk most days even if its raining. I remember when my nephew was the same age as your son, he used to shout "outside, outside" until he got to go outside. He needed some time outside everyday whatever the weather. I hope to encourage my little girl to be just the same.

    1. Ahhh, every time we visit my mum and dad's my little man will wave a hurried hello and run through to their dining room and stand at the patio doors asking to go in the garden. He just loves it. (And it was their garden that I took these photos.) x

  10. I agree, even when poorly as soon as they start showing improvement it's outside to blow away those cobwebs and kill the germs. (the weather we've been having lately would wash them away!) Gorgeous photos as usual :)

    1. Thanks hun. We did have one lucky day with the weather this week, the rest of the time was a bit miserable. I think that was part of the charm of their exploring, they'd been a bit like caged animals all week. x
