a little getaway

A few weeks back we went to Scarborough for a long weekend,
and we were lucky enough to be there as guests of Park Resorts.
They offered us a chance to stay at their Cayton Bay resort
and we were really excited to check it out.

Before having children I think we would have looked down our noses on a caravan holiday.
My Nan has had a static caravan for years,
and as an adult, pre children of my own, I couldn't see the appeal.
But now that I have children of my own,
the charm of a caravan has revealed itself a bit more.
They give you a little home away from home
which is invaluable with small children.

The caravan which we stayed in at Cayton Bay was really lovely.
It was spotlessly clean,
with lovely cosy, crisp bedding.
It had everything we could possibly need for a short stay
(except for a kitchen bin randomly - although we made do with carrier bags!)

Hotel stays with little ones can be a nightmare come bedtime,
and we've been known to spend an evening sat in the bathroom,
or go to bed early and hide under the sheets reading my phone light in the past.
But while we stayed at Cayton Bay we had no such issues.
We put the children to bed in their own lovely room
and the evening was our own,
to watch television, eat dinner and play games together.
And our own bedroom even had an ensuite shower room
which was bigger than our ensuite at home.

The beauty of staying on a resort like Park Resorts
is that you can obviously use them as a base to explore the surrounding areas
(like we did when we headed off to Scarborough for a couple of day trips)
but there is also plenty on site to keep your entertained.
Cayton Bay has a big indoor pool,
which the children absolutely adored;
it wasn't too deep and had slides and a splashing fountain area,
so its definitely designed with young families in mind.
There is a shop on site selling all the essentials,
as well as places to buy cooked food if you fancy a night off of cooking.
The main Bay View area is home to the pool,
but also a soft play area,
and a selection of arcade games which Daddy and the little man really enjoyed together.
There is also a variety of entertainment and bookable activities available,
but we didn't get an opportunity to try these out.

The resort is nicely landscaped with places to play and explore,
it's well laid out with plenty of space to park.
And there is a lovely big children's play area,
variety of play equipment for all different ages,
which we naturally had to visit on more than one occasion.

It would definitely be true to say that we are converted on the idea of caravan breaks.
They are fantastic when you have a young family
and we loved the combination of having things to do on site,
as well as being in a beautiful area of the UK to explore.

So thanks for having us Park Resorts,
I'm sure we'll be back.

We were given a three night break at Park Resorts in Cayton Bay free of charge
for the purpose of writing this review,
but this in no way affects my opinion. All words are my own.
