free range fun

Holidays are all about adventures and relaxing,
being together and making new memories.
That's what I go on holiday wanting,
and that is what our holiday at Bluestone gave us in abundance.

The beautiful lodge accommodation,
with its spacious, comfy and modern design,
a classy fitted kitchen,
solid wood furniture,
wet room
and private decking area;
certainly felt very 'boutique cottage'
and not carbon-copy holiday home.

The Bluestone site itself is absolutely stunning.
It's a big area but it isn't totally full of lodges,
so it feels like there is a lot of fresh air and wide open space.
And because it isn't packed out with millions of lodges
it also feels quiet,
with hustle and bustle in the main village centre,
but peaceful elsewhere.
They pride themselves on providing free range family holidays,
and you can see why.
The whole place is so well maintained and looked after,
it's clean, nicely landscaped and perfect for exploring.

Bluestone also happens to be set in an area of absolutely outstanding natural beauty; Pembrokeshire.
They really encourage you to go out and explore the neighbouring areas and tourist attractions,
and we took a day trip out to visit the nearby beaches that were recommended,
and they didn't disappoint in the slightest.
In fact I'd put our day out visiting Barafundle Bay and Broadhaven South right up there,
and possibly my favourite day EVER!
And I don't say that lightly.
(You can see another little video of our beautiful day here.)

On site, it has all the facilities that you would expect from a holiday resort
...and more.
The Blue Lagoon pool has a large wave pool,
as well as flumes, a lazy river and a kids area.
The village centre had all the shops and amenities we needed
(although we did stock up with supplies from a nearby supermarket too)
as well as an enormous play area,
and several different restaurants.

The Adventure Centre was totally fantastic.
We were lucky with weather when we went,
meaning we got to have lots of outdoor adventures,
but this place would have been the saving grace of our holiday had it not been.
With several fantastic soft play and climbing areas,
as well as a large bouncy castle,
mini crazy golf,
a lego wall
and big comfy sofas for tired parents,
it was full of exciting things to keep children entertained.

We hired a golf buggy while we were there,
which I would really recommend.
The site itself is quite hilly in places;
hard enough for reasonable fit adults,
let alone toddlers with little legs,
or even worse; parents pushing a fully laden double buggy.
The beautiful boy was so excited about 'number 29 buggy'
and said he was going on an adventure every time he got on it.
And actually us grown ups were pretty excited by it too,
driving around the site like giddy kids.

Another extra that we went for
was to book a few of the activity sessions.
Holidays are a nice opportunity to try new things
and the variety of activities that they offer meant there was something for everyone.
Rich tried his hand at laser clay shooting,
which he said was really well organised.
I went for a sundown experience at the spa,
which included a glass of champagne and three hours in the thermal spa.
The beautiful boy (and Daddy) went on the beast hunt,
in search of bugs and mini beasties.
And the beautiful girl (and Mummy) went along to toddler sensory,
where she got to play and explore to her hearts content.
We really enjoyed all the activities we tried
and the staff were fantastic at each and every one.
In fact staff were fantastic everywhere we went.
Helpful, friendly, and nothing seemed too much trouble.

Quite simply, we loved our break at Bluestone,
and we would hurry back in a heart beat.

You can find other family videos
on our YouTube channel or on our video page.

We were given a five day/four night break in a Caldey Lodge free of charge
for the purposes of this review,
but this in no way affects our opinions.
We paid to hire the golf buggy and attend activities ourselves.

  8. Oh what a gorgeous holiday! The girls have been watching the video with me this morning and now Kitty wants to go to 'the big swimming pool' - we might have to see if we can persuade the rest of the family into a trip to our slightly more ordinary pool over the weekend!
