an interview with the mr

What is the hardest thing about being married?
It's probably the extra responsibility that comes with it; feeling that you need and want to provide. There is a lack of freedom from what I may have had in my teens or at university. It's just different. But that's by no means a bad thing, that's just life and growing up.

And what is the best thing about being married?
Having a companion; someone you can come home to, love and care for.
And I really enjoy that, which is odd considering I just said that the hardest thing about marriage is losing your freedom; but the best bit is having that companionship and knowing that they'll be there and that you'll be there for them.

What about the hardest thing about being a parent?
Wondering constantly whether you're doing a good job; whether you should try and bring them up the way that you were brought up and then possibly disagreeing with what your wife does, or what other people do. Hoping that he grows up to be a good boy and knowing I have to play a part in making that happen.

And what is the best thing about being a parent?
Watching him grow. Right now there are new words everyday and it's so exciting. And also seeing his little face light up when he sees me is pretty cool.

What scares you?
Failure and losing it all. The only thing that truly scares me is not being able to provide for my family.

What is your best memory?
My wedding day, because it was the beginning of something so special. The very best bit was turning round to see my wife-to-be coming down the aisle with her dad; that bit was just perfect. We obviously have had a child but I wouldn't say the day he was born, because I'd been awake for so long I felt like I was in a daze, so it was a bit strange actually. If I could have two best memories, then it would be bringing the beautiful boy home from hospital, when I was actually awake; putting him in his bouncy chair and watching our two little baby cats (who at the time were our babies) just sort of sniffing around him. Just bringing him into our home was a pretty cool memory.

What do you think life will look like in 10 years time?
I'd like to think that we'll be living in a nice big house with a big garden, not that I'm materialistic, but enough room for us and the kids and the cats. I'd like to think we'll have a nice holiday every year, that we'll have the grandparents round, normal things really. With things like barbeques in the summer, building snowmen with the kids, taking them to play at the park, taking them to school; all those kinds of things.

It's not that often that my lovely husband will willingly get involved in the 'blogging thing' because he doesn't particularly like sitting and writing. So I left him alone with a list of questions and a dictaphone and asked him to answer them and record his answers so that I could transcribe them later.

He's quite a sweet heart, isn't he? Apart from the fact that he finds it hard that he hasn't got the freedom he once had before he married me. Oh and he clearly doesn't agree with some of my parenting ideas either! But I think the way he talks about caring for us and wanting to provide for us is pretty adorable.

It's loyalty and love like that, that makes a girl marry a guy like him . . . !

  1. What lovely photos of your little family- and where your hubby wants to be sounds exactly where I want to be in ten years time- albeit with my family! ;) x

    1. Aww, thanks. I wasn't entirely sure what he'd say to any of the questions. And leaving him to answer them alone could have been a bit like expecting a toddler to do it, but I thought his answers were really sweet, espeically to that ten years time one. X

  2. I love this post, I think it is nice to hear from the man behind the woman, to see how as a family unit you work, I think Ashley would answer quite similarly.
Thanks for sharing mr DBB x

    1. Well that's what I thought, but there is no way that I'd get him to sit and write a post. Glad you liked it. X

    1. Thank-you. I think it must be one of those natural parenting worrries; I know that I often worry if I'm doing a good job but it's nice to know that my husband has the same worries. X
