this guy

I often worry that I take this guy for granted... he is an absolute hero in this family and he definitely doesn't always get the credit he deserves for that. He works hard for us in his day job, and then comes home and does it all over again mucking in with everything that being a daddy, husband and general family man entails.

boys will be boys

I've always loved watching my boys enjoy things together.
Back in the days when we were a three,
I would spend a lot of time sitting back
and just witnessing them;
their bond and their relationship.

1

two plus two equals us

For us,
family life with two children
both two and under,
it is all about twos.

Two boys.
Two girls.
Two parents.
Two children.

We switch seamlessly between our twos,
making sure we all get an equal look in.
Two gives us balance; symmetry.
Two plus two makes us a family.

{the ordinary moments} my boys

This epitomises an ordinary moment.
They didn't even know they were being photographed.
And I didn't know I was photographing them.

Okay, so I did have the camera pointed at them,
but I was just checking my light and my camera settings
ready to get a different photo.
And then I looked through the memory card when I got home
and I found this . . .

A completely accidental photo
of an utterly beautiful and tender moment
between my two best boys.

They say time flies when you're having fun.

happy father's day

I find it hard to find the right words to describe my husband
as a father to our children.
And at the same time I could write forever
about the beautiful gift he has given me, given us,
in making us a family.

He isn't perfect,
but he is perfect for us.

He is our beautiful boy's play mate,
his partner in crime.
They share a need to have things "just so"
and a mutual love of boys trips to the supermarket.

He is our beautiful girl's safe hands,
her hero.
They share the exact same smile
and a certain twinkle around the eyes.

Happy Father's Day.
We love you lots
and are grateful every single day
that you are ours.

a second birth story - part fourteen

In my second birth story so far;

My water broke at 11.30pm,
I booked into hospital as high risk
with meconium present in the waters.
At 4cm just before 3.30am I got an epidural,
only to be fully dilated just after 4am.
After a break to let the baby descend and the epidural wear off a bit,
I pushed my baby into the world at 6:05am.

...and then there were four

On Friday our little family gained a new person;
another team member,
another part of the gang.
And she is a little pink bundle,
so she has evened things up around here.

kick it

I think that my hubby would quite happily have had me give birth to a toddler when I had the little man.
He has always been a doting and hands on daddy,
but in the last few weeks and months I have watched him blossom as a parent.

meet your daddy

dear beautiful boy and precious soon-to-meet baby,

of all the great things that have happened to me
and the big decisions I've made in my life,
I can say without a doubt that I chose the right daddy for my children.
and because it will be years before you can really understand the man that you call "dad"
I'm going to tell you just how awesome he is.

the very best daddy in the world

We may not tell you enough
or show you enough,
but that doesn't mean that you aren't THE very best daddy in the world.

I couldn't have chosen a better partner to go on this parenting adventure with.

Our big Dollop and our little Splodge couldn't be luckier than to have you as their dad.

We think you rock!!!
