{flump} the pregnancy diaries - four months

I decided in a moment of craziness (I'm blaming the hormones) to keep a video diary of my monthly Flump updates with this pregnancy. I thought it will be nice to look back on in years to come, and will hopefully make it a bit different from the updates I did last time around when I was pregnant with Splodge. It feels very cringey to be talking to the camera when I am so used to hiding behind it, but I'm being brave and hopefully I won't regret it too much. This month I'm talking about first trimester v. second trimester, secret dues dates, finding out the gender, and baby movements.

I wanted to share my bump photos here too, because I know that of all the things I recorded in my last pregnancy, they were my favourite bit. So here they are...

You can check out my second pregnancy updates here and see how things compare this time around.

I'm so excited to already have signed up to work with some fantastic brands during my pregnancy and once little Flump arrives. The lovely The Essential One have very kindly asked me to be their official 'pregnancy blogger' and I'm going to be sharing regular bump updates over on their blog too, with all the usual measurements, symptoms and highlights. My first one will be going up next week, but this week they officially welcomed me and there is a little post about how we'll be working together on their blog here.

  1. I'm not sure if my comment posted or not, but I think it's great for the children to know what you're expecting but also a surprise is magical, whichever you decide you'll be happy. You still can't choose, it's just an earlier surprise. I'm sure once you know you'll just be super excited for baby x

    1. Thats very true... its still a surprise whenever you find out I guess! I literally have no preference and no hunch this time around, so I think maybe it might be nice to know. And I know the kids would LOVE to. x

    1. Yep, time is flying and well on my way to half way. I'm so excited to document with video, I think it feels much more honest than just photos and words somehow. x

  3. I never had a surprise with all 3. A part of me really wanted to for all but I loved being able to buy all the gender related bits. Plus I definitely think my daughters enjoyed knowing each time and it helped them to adjust.

    1. Hahaha, I won't need to buy much in the way of gender related things either way... as we have plenty of boy, girl and gender neutral stuff, especially for the early days. I'm just thinking it may be nice for us to know this time, partly for the children, but also for us so we can look ahead. x

  4. I absolutely loved your pregnancy vlog! It's bringing back so many memories from when I was pregnant! I had quite bad morning sickness in the first trimester which thankfully went away in the second. I found out the gender because I am impatient and also because the pregnancy was a surprise so it helped me get my head around the fact I was having a baby as I could picture myself with a little boy. Looking forward to your next update :) xx

    1. YES, I think the fact the pregnancy came as a bit of a surprise is definitely a factor in me wanting to find out this time around. I feel like maybe I've been surprised enough already. x

    1. Awww, thanks Natalie. I felt (and still feel) very awkward about the talking to camera thing, but I'm just hoping it becomes easier. x

  7. OMG you did amazing. I LOVE IT. I told you you would be such a natural at it. I love this series and what a creative and amazing idea for a vlog do document your pregnancy. If I was ever to have kids again (which I have been told never but never say never hahaha) I would love to have something like this to look back on. I am so sad I hadn't documented either of my two as I wasn't blogging then. I think it's such a great experience for you and for the baby too when he/she is born. Speaking of gender you must find out! For me! Just kidding I think it would help that transition with BB and BG knowing and you could do an amazing gender reveal vlog too! That would be amazing. Fab vlog darling so proud of you and you talk great to the camera. Good for you for jumping in and trying it when I know you were a little unease at first about speaking on camera. Your accent is amazing too I just have to add. could listen to you all day. lol :) Keep them coming.

    1. Thanks Jenny, for all your support and help. It still feels very out of my comfort zone, but I liked doing it, and I'm glad I did, so I guess I'll have to keep going now... right?
I definitely think we're leaning towards finding out now... not much longer to wait. x

  8. Aww you did fab! A great way to document the pregnancy. Can just imagine how magical it will be for you to all look back on. I do regret not recording or documenting anything on either of mine! I get what your saying about really enjoying everything with this baby. I never did that with Miss C cause I was running around after Z so I'd love to do the pregnancy thing again just to really enjoy all those moments. Whether we will or not, I don't know. I think it's a good idea to find out for the kids. Have you asked them if they'd want to know or whether they want a surprise? x

    1. I asked them after reading your comment and I think they are both pretty impatient to know. Plus the little man feels very strongly that its a sister, and if its a boy he might need those 20 weeks to get used to it. x

  10. This is such a nice way tp document your pregnancy lovely, especially if its going to be your last. It will be so nice to look back on in years to come. I say find out, because it's great to get organised and it might be nice to know this time round- but then obviously I am a big fan of finding out as I did with both my girls. It might help the kids get to grips with it more though, thats a good thing. x

    1. Thats what I'm hoping, that it'll be lovely to look back at, and maybe even share with Flump too.
I know that you'll always be firmly in the 'find out' corner... and I think we might be too this time around. x

  11. Love the blog, Lucy! It's fab! I'm. 3 weeks away from having number three and we didn't find out... Was definitely more of a decision this time (we've had surprises the last two as well) but now that we didn't, I'm really glad we haven't. I reckon whatever you decide, it doesn't really matter. I quite like all the conversations with the girls when they try and guess!x

    1. Hahaha, my two aren't guessing... they have decided, which is another reason I think finding out might be an idea, as one of them is going to be wrong!!! Hehe. x

  12. Loved watching this vlog, Lucy. You would never guess this is the first time you've done this - you're a complete natural on camera, and very articulate.
I think we chatted on Twitter about the pros and cons of finding out the gender. We had a surprise the first time and found out the second time, both because of wanting to sort out the practicalities but also because I wanted to know what it felt like to know and to develop that bond with either my second little boy or my first little girl, A strong reason for also finding out for us was the draw of being able to tell our little boy that he was having a little sister/brother. With little ones I think it really helps them to prepare and visualise the big change coming up. I totally get wanting to let Nature keep her surprises though; but for me, childbirth is overwhelming on its own without the surprise of the gender reveal! Good luck on whatever you decide, and I look forward to seeing more updates x

    1. Oh thank-you. I certainly don't feel like a natural, but hopefully I'll get there.
I think we may well find out, for all those reasons; to help us bond with the baby, and also to prepare the children. I know they would absolutely love to know. x

  13. morning sickness is the actual worst, I had the all day sickness with Wilf for 17 weeks as well as actually being sick around 4 times a day and it almost broke me (there were lots of tears!) I felt SO glad I wasn't one of those people who get HG or who get it the whole way through as I honestly don't know how they could do it again. I wanted to say I think you're amazing for doing the danceathon thing with morning sickness btw! I say find out, it's nice to picture the person who's in there and I felt like it helped me with my bond with W before he was born x

    1. Oh isn't it just!?!?!?! I've so much respect for people who've battled through multiple pregnancies feeling so utterly rubbish. I had it pretty mildly in the scheme of things, and it sucked!!! And thank-you... doing six hours dancing while growing a tiny human is definitely a proud accomplishment. x

  14. I think all your dancing has given you strong stomach muscles as I certainly didn't look like that at 17 weeks with my third! I loved finding out that mine were boys, but I think I just 'knew' already that they were boys and I wanted it confirmed.

    1. Thats what my midwife seems to think too... that my tummy muscles are just stronger than they were last time. I'm pretty sure I'll catch up at some point. I know you always have pretty strong feelings, but I am rubbish at guessing what I'm having and was wrong both times with my two... so I'm clearly not a good judge. x

  15. Aww wow Lucy this is fantastic video and one you are going to so love looking back on. I think its the first time I've heard you properly too!! I am like you and completely didn't want to know the gender. Then I got into the room and was waivering and searching the sonographers face for clues. Its still a surprise though and I'm glad although we have two more scans so temptation could rear its head again. :)
