your thirty-fourth month

We had always thought you were the most amazing boy ever.

We were your parents and we were programmed to think that way,
but lately you just seemed to be so clever.
Your grasp of the English language amazed us daily,
you were talking with more and more complexity
and working out how to structure your sentences
and converse in such a grown up way.
People who met you were always so impressed by your speech
and couldn't believe how old you were when we told them.

You were also fascinated by learning
and we're particularly obsessed with numbers and letters,
which you would spot all over the place
and take great delight in naming for us.
You enjoyed matching things up
and ordering things too.
It just astounded us how much you were learning
without having to actually be "taught".

Having been looking for a little while
we had found the perfect preschool for you
and put your name down to start in September 2014.
We had been worried about finding somewhere
where we knew you would be happy and flourish.
The one we chose just seemed like the perfect fit.
You had loved your visit so much
and settled right in and made yourself at home,
and you cried when we said it was time to leave.
It was scary to think that you were growing up so fast
but exciting too.

You were very excited to see Christmas arrive
and were totally caught up in the magic of it.
When Mummy told you on December 1st
that the Christmas fairies had been over night,
you instantly asked if they had brought the Christmas tree.
And you were so excited about Father Christmas coming
and were loving the countdown during advent.
Christmas was so exciting with you around,
you made it so magical for us all.

    1. He is, he seems less toddler and more little boy with each passing month. And his amazement at Christmas this year is just so beautiful to watch. x

    1. I often think when you talk about Z that he reminds me of my little man. All the best boys love numbers and letters. x
