a baby gruffalo fan

The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child are long time favourites in this house. When I first started reading Dylan a bedtime story it was those two books that I started with, and for the longest time they were the only two books that he would accept as his bedtime book. Rich and I can both perform the entire books by heart; and I say perform because voices are a complete must. There is just something about those two stories and their simple twists on what you’d normally expect from a good versus bad story, that just inspires children and captures their imaginations - and those of their parents too.

So when we received The Gruffalo Puppet Book to add to our Gruffalo collection we were thrilled to try it out. And I promise I’m not just saying this because I’m reviewing it, but it genuinely is our little Ashlyn’s favourite book. She smiles at the mere sight of it, and starts reaching forward to grab the Gruffalo puppet straight away.

It’s such a lovely way to introduce her to the Gruffalo, a character that is bound to pepper her bedtime story memories for years to come, but it does so in a fun and interactive way that is appropriate for the stage she is at. She still isn’t really ready to sit and listen the books in their entirety yet, but this book really captures her attention and she squeals with delight when we move the Gruffalo puppet. It really does bring the book to life. And as she grows I’m sure she will enjoy pointing out all the Gruffalo’s features on the puppet as they are mentioned in the book.

Anything Gruffalo holds such a big place in our hearts as a family, we all just have such fond memories of reading the books, watching the short films, visiting the characters at a woods nearby, and I love that this book is helping to give our littlest lady her first taste of the lovely tales. It’s quite simply, a charming addition to our growing library.

This post is sponsored by Macmillan, but this in no way affects my opinion on the book, we think it's fab. We also recently worked on a video review of another book from the Gruffalo range in collaboration with Channel Mum, so do pop and have a look, we had so much fun making it.

  1. Such cute pics of her. It's one of those things that every family adopts, a little love and we all hope that each child will love it the same so I can tell you were pleased she did. Pop up books are so brilliant for 1 year old son aren't they mine used to squeal and laugh so much at one of their old books. This book really reminds me of that, it was a simple book about what this little bear did before bed but the kids loved it x

    1. It's nice to begin introducing those characters and some of the phrases, isn't it? So the original book won't feel totally unfamiliar when the time comes. x
