new friends

There is something so beautiful and precious about the ease with which children make friends. They don't even need to exchange names and they'll happily play together, laugh together, and comment afterwards on what lovely friends they made. Somewhere along the line making friends changes, and it isn't always so easy to make new ones.

Hands down the best thing thing to come out of blogging for me has been the friendships I've made. People who through the wonders of technology have watched my children grow, congratulated me on milestones, been there to listen and support when things have been tough. I've met some amazing, like-minded people through blogging who I will be ever grateful that I have in my life.

But being 'family friends' is a different thing entirely. And it's a special thing when you can find a whole family to get along with.

A couple of weeks back we met up with one of my lovely online friends Jenny, and we bravely decided to throw both families together and see what happened. The children are similar ages and had an absolute blast together, playing ball and chasing one another around. The husbands also got on like a house on fire, which was really lovely to see. Plus it meant that instead of having to keep the conversation flowing between the four adults, Jenny and I could natter about blogging and the joys of parenting little ones.

We all had the loveliest time together, and were sad to say goodbye which I think says it all. So thank-you for a lovely day Jenny and family. Lets do it again soon!

  1. Oh how lovely to have got to spend the day together, it looks like you all had a blast! And I know what you mean about children making friends without bothering with names it always cracks me up when Kitty sees someone she's played with at the park before, goes to give them a huga hug and has no idea what they're called!

  3. Ahhh Lucy this just made me cry! Let's do it again and again and again. There is nothing better than finding a real life friend out of blogging but like you said more importantly a whole family of friends. I had the best day ever and I am ever so grateful that my blog brought you in my life. I think we are truly blessed to have the double team families all close I know it's rare and it's something I will hold on to as tight as possible. Your photos are beautiful and just brought all those amazing memories back. The kids really did have so much fun and the hubbies and I love that we even got to steal away for coffee just the two of us. It was a even bigger treat to see you at Mumsnet the weekend after. I always hate having a high and then going ages without seeing each so the high continued for me. Even though I coughed my head off all day but I got my Lucy hugs in and my Katie hugs too! What a beautifully written post. I was at the hospital getting my knee xrayed when I saw your tweet then I couldn't open it until I got back home. hahaha I wanted to see it so bad. Now I cant stop pouring over the photos. I should have took more of us lol Roll on February when we all get to be together. I can't wait!!!!! Thank you for a brilliant family day out! :)
