the siblings project {april}

With two weeks off school and preschool for the Easter holidays, we've had an abundance of opportunities for taking sibling photos lately. But in much the same way that when I'm having a really really good time with friends I completely forget to take a single photograph to remember the moment, my camera has spent much of the holidays abandoned. I just didn't think to pick up the camera to capture one of the many lovely moments these three have shares, because it's been nice to just enjoy watching them. With a baby sister on the cusp of being able to play and join in more, it feels like they are at a bit of turning point as a trio.

They simply adore one another and love being able to do things together. The excitement levels (and accompanying volume levels) go sky high when they are doing something as a three. And the loveliest thing about school holidays - aside from the slower pace of life and not having to clock watch - is that there is so much more time for them to have fun together.

Both the girls idolise their big brother and look up to him as some kind of hilarious, genius character that they want to be just like and also be best friends with. And he definitely likes being the eldest one who gets to look out for the younger ones and play the protective big brother thing. It's just the cutest thing watching them in action.

So I decided in the end to grab our photos for The Siblings Project at a time when the team of three thing seems to be at it's best; story time. My big boy proudly reading to his sisters, and them hanging on his every word.

I love the tangle of legs and feet on the sofa. I love how they are just so connected and so comfortable. I love their matching blonde heads. Three little bookworms.

Seeing them together I see so clearly their similarities but also their differences, I suppose because no one on earth can know those quite like I do. Different pairings within the three share different things, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I love that I can look at them and see that they are brother and sister, that they are a set, that they 'go together'. But I love how different they each are in their own ways too, and how those differences fit together but make them each their own unique person.

And because I know that no one will believe for a second that my three children are always the adorable, quiet and angelic creatures they were during their story. Here is a photo taken second later, when I tried to get a "nice smiley one"... life is never boring with this crazy bunch!

Do pop by my cohosts Katie, Carie, Keri-AnneAmber and Annie too to see what they've been up too. And link up your posts in the linky at the bottom, I can't wait to see all your photos.

And don't forget that The Siblings Project is also on Instagram, so do go over to @siblings_project_ and give us a follow. Add #siblingsproject to your photos and then we'll be sharing some of our favourites. And it can be any sibling photos, not just the ones you link up for The Siblings Project blog post. We already have quite a gorgeous collection of sibling moments on show.

  1. Aww bless! They do look chocolate box adorable having a little story time but it's the outtake that made me giggle - possibly because it's so very familiar to my attempts to take pictures of my three!! I remember watching Pip get to an age where he started to 'count' in the girls' eyes and it's so much fun to see that leap forward in the relationship and the first signs of a trio - enjoy!!

    1. Hahaha, I do always love an outtake, and couldn't resist the juxtaposition between the reading ones and the attempted posed one. x

  8. Such gorgeous pictures Lucy... Storytime! Why didn't I think of that?! Mine were disastrous this month! But I suppose not an unrealistic representation of life with three! Storytime!!! That's it! Thanks as always for hosting lovely lady!

    1. I think sometimes the slightly more disastrous ones have more of a story and end up being more memorable. There is beauty in the chaos of three... although sometimes you do have to look quite hard for it. x

    1. Thanks Vikki. I actually love how alike they are; my brother don't even look related and never really have, and I would have quite liked that idea that we looked like we belonged... if that makes sense. x

  17. That's absolutely me. When I'm having fun I rarely take a single picture!! I always joke that I'm a rubbish blogger... my pics are usually last minute because I'm usually so much in the moment that I forget to take pics! Lovely pics though — as I said to Katie about hers, this month, very often these are the ones that we'll treasure the most because they offer a glimpse of real life x

  20. Awww, they are looking so alike this month! Such beautiful children you have :) I know exactly what you mean, I ended up vlogging throughout our easter holidays but kept forgetting to when we were out and about as we were just so busy and having a lovely time. I then remembered to video, and forgot to take any photos! We have rarely any from our 2 weeks off... whoops! Oh well, trying not to be so hard on myself!! x

  25. They are all just so cute and seem to get along so well. I really identify with their bond because at their age my sibling group was the same- a boy and then two girls (my second sister follow on a bit later...) my older brother followed by me who was only 16 months younger, followed by my sister who was 2.5 years younger than me, so very similar I guess. We all got on so well and used to idolise our brother- that never stopped. They are just the perfect photos of your little trio xx

    1. Awwww, yes thats very similar to our set up, only the gaps between mine are slightly bigger; 19 months between the first two and three years between the second two. The dynamics between them fascinates me, and now I know who to talk to when they are puzzling me! x

  27. Look at BB taking proud owner of the leader big brother of his sisters. SO SO ADORABLE. These are truly precious Lucy. You can tell how close they will be growing up together and long into their adulthood. The silly faces are brilliant too! Life is dull if we don't have laughter and these three look like they know how to live a happy one. I love it. Gorgeous!!! Thanks for hosting. I am a day or two late with mine ooops. xoxo
