{the baby diaries} three months old

I'm back with a new vlog all about our littlest lady and how things are going with our newest addition and as a family of five. I hope it gives you a little insight into how things are going; I've tried to touch on some of the highs and lows of life with three children, as well as talking a little bit about routines and how we make things work. Be sure to let me know if you have any burning questions you'd like me to answer in future vlogs.

you are three months old {dear beautiful little lady}

dear beautiful little lady

It feels like yet another month has flown by, but this past month you seem to have changed quite a bit. It feels like you really aren't a newborn anymore; you have a personality which seems to be coming out more and more with each passing day. It feels like I really know you now, in fact I've said to Daddy that I just feel so close to you - so in tune with you - that I know what you want before you want it. It's a magical thing. And I just love our bond; how nobody else has quite the effect on you that I do, and how I just feel so much happier and more relaxed with you in my arms.

the siblings project {january}

The extra dimension that a third child has added to the dynamics between our children just fascinates me. I made no secret of how much I always loved watching the bond and relationship at play between my oldest two, and adding another child into the mix just means that there are so many more bonds and relationships to enjoy.

While the biggest two remain thick as thieves and the absolute best of friends; as they are growing we are also seeing more of the pushing each other's buttons that is such an essential part of growing up with a sibling. I have to confess that I actually kind of enjoy watching them wind each other up, push each other a little too far, bicker over silly things and then find ways to resolve it. Because isn't that the big life lesson that you get from growing up with a brother or sister? You learn how to argue, how to problem solve, how to get your own way and how to come out the other side of negotiations and remain friends. And my biggest two are doing all of that in spades. They decide they want things only when they know the other one does, they deliberately annoy one another or tell the other to do something they know they shouldn't, but they also share and play together so nicely, and defend each other fiercely.

On the most part our baby girl she looks at her older sister like she can't decide what to make of her. Our biggest girl is loud, in her face and little bit of wild one; and I'm not entirely sure that she 'gets' her yet but my goodness does she find her funny. And our big girl doesn't half dote on her little sister though, constantly asking to talk to her, to cuddle her, to sing her a song and calling her "my gorgeous girl". She is the ultimate mini mummy, and I have no doubt that they will get closer and closer as they grow. I have a funny feeling that those girls might be a force to be reckoned with once the littlest has picked up all the biggest ones best tricks.

But the bond between my biggest and my littlest is very different and it simply melts my heart. Our little boy is so careful and gentle with his baby sister - the baby sister he so wanted and patiently waited for. He likes to help me with her, undoing her clothes at nappy changes, sponging her clean in the bath, and rocking her in the car seat when they wait to leave the house for school. He loves to sit on my bed and look into her crib in the mornings and sing "You are my sunshine" to her when she first wakes up in the morning... which just makes me want to cry with pride. And she absolutely lights up when she sees him, something about him just enchants her.

the family photo projects

The Me and Mine Project and The Siblings Project have lived here on this blog for three years and two years respectively now. They are one of the best things I've done as a blogger, both for my blog and for us as a family. I love the fact that those photo projects "force" me to make sure I capture memories of us. I have no doubt that while I would have photographs of us as a family and my children together as siblings, that if I didn't do these projects, that I wouldn't have as many, and that I would let months pass in between, and that in doing that I would miss all the little things that change from month to month.

a hello and a goodbye

And so, just like that, 2015 is behind us and 2016 lies ahead... a big blank year ready to have adventures written all over it. Saying goodbye to 2015 was hard, it was one heck of a year for us. In some ways it was exactly how I expected, but in other ways it brought a lot of surprises. I guess you could argue that most years are like that to some extent. But we had expected 2015 to be a simple year; one of growth and adventure, with a trip to Disney and a little man starting school being the main big moments. As it happened both of those big and amazing moments were somewhat outshone by the arrival of our littlest lady. Back in December last year I had expected to be expecting the following Christmas, I would not have thought I'd have a baby in my arms instead. But what a beautiful and perfect curve ball she's turned out to be.
